How a teen dating site should work at 13–17

At this age, "dating" mostly means talking to someone a lot, sharing music, laughing at the same things and slowly figuring out that you like them. MyLOL is built for that version of it — not for the adult version.

That's why the site is a social network first. You get a profile you design, a song on your page, groups for the things you're into, and a chronological feed of your friends. Connections form out of conversations, not out of swiping through faces.

It also means there's no pressure to be looking for anything. Plenty of members are here purely to make friends, and that's a completely normal way to use MyLOL.

The teen community is separate from adults

This is the part that matters most on a page about dating for teens: who is in the room.

Teen MyLOL is only for members ages 13–17. Adult MyLOL is only for members 18 and over. They are two separate environments with separate sign-ups, and adult accounts cannot appear in teen discovery, join teen groups, or message teen members. When a teen member turns 18, they move to the adult community.

New accounts also go through age assurance at sign-up, and accounts found to be in the wrong age range are removed from the teen community.

How to start talking to someone here

The best openers on MyLOL are specific and low-stakes. You already have something to work with, because profiles show taste.

1. 1Fill out your own profile first — theme, photo, a line about you, and a song. People reply to profiles that feel like a person.
2. 2Join two or three groups for things you're genuinely into rather than things you think sound impressive.
3. 3Comment on posts in those groups before messaging anyone. It's easier and it works better.
4. 4When you do message someone, mention the actual reason: their profile song, a post they made, a group you're both in.
5. 5Keep it light. If they're not into the conversation, let it go — there are plenty of other people here.

Is MyLOL a teen dating site or a social network?

It's a social network for ages 13–17 where friendship is the main use. Age-appropriate dating between teens in the same community happens, but the site isn't designed around it.

Can adults join the teen community?

No. Adult members are in a separate community and cannot browse, contact or interact with teen members.

What age do I have to be?

Teen MyLOL is for ages 13–17. If you're 18 or older, use the separate adult community.

Should I meet someone from online in person?

Not without involving a parent or guardian. Keep new connections online, and if anyone pressures you to meet, report it.

Someone is making me uncomfortable. What do I do?

Block them and report the conversation. Then tell an adult you trust. You never need a reason beyond "I didn't like it".
