Teen chat

Chat, Make Friends and Be Part of Something

MyLOL's teen chat isn't a room full of strangers shouting. It's group conversations built around interests, one-to-one messages with people you've actually met in those groups, plus Shouts and guestbooks for the quick stuff.

Everyone chatting in the teen community is 13–17. Adult members are in a completely separate community.

  • Interest-based group chat
  • One-to-one messages
  • Shouts and guestbooks
  • Moderated, with reporting built in

Four ways to talk on MyLOL

Different conversations need different rooms, so there's more than one way to say something.

  • Group chat

Rooms for music, gaming, anime, film, art, photography, books, sports, tech, fashion, food and general chatting. Jump in whenever.

  • Direct messages

One-to-one chat for the people you've clicked with. You control who is allowed to message you.

  • Shouts

A short status for right now. Fast, low-pressure, and often how a longer conversation starts.

  • Guestbooks and comments

Leave a message on a friend's page, or reply under a post in the feed. Public, friendly, easy.

Why group chat beats random chat

Random pairing puts two people with nothing in common in an empty room and hopes for the best. It mostly produces awkward silence — or someone behaving badly because there's no accountability.

Group chat on MyLOL works the opposite way. There's a topic, there are other people watching, and you see the same names again tomorrow. That makes conversations easier to join and misbehaviour much easier to spot and report.

It's also how friendships actually form. You don't become friends with someone in one dramatic conversation. You become friends because you kept ending up in the same room.

What to say when you join a chat

You don't need an entrance. You need one useful sentence.

  1. 1Read the last few messages so you're joining the conversation instead of restarting it.
  2. 2Answer whatever question is already on the table, even briefly.
  3. 3Add one specific thing of your own: a recommendation, an opinion, a link to something you made.
  4. 4Ask the room something you actually want to know rather than a generic "how is everyone".
  5. 5Come back tomorrow. Being a familiar name is worth more than being a clever one.

You control your conversations

Chat should never feel like something happening to you.

  • Choose who can message you

Privacy settings let you limit direct messages to the people you want.

  • Block instantly

Blocking cuts off contact right away and needs no explanation.

  • Report from the chat

Any message can be reported to moderators from where you're reading it.

  • Leave any group

No notice, no drama. You can rejoin later if you want.

  • Delete on your page

You can remove comments and guestbook messages left on your own profile.

  • Mute the noise

You don't have to be in every room. Two active groups beat ten quiet ones.

What isn't allowed in teen chat

The Community Guidelines apply everywhere, and chat is where they matter most.

No sexual content or solicitation, no harassment or targeted abuse, no hate speech, no threats, no sharing other people's private information, no scams, no requests for money, and no pushing people onto other apps to get around moderation. Breaking these gets content removed and can get an account permanently removed.

If you see any of it, report it rather than replying. Reporting is faster, safer, and it protects everyone else in the room too.

Safety

Chatting safely

Moderation does part of the work. These habits do the rest.

  • Teens only

The teen chat community is 13–17 and separate from adult members.

  • Moderated spaces

Our moderation team reviews reported content and behaviour against the Community Guidelines.

  • Keep details private

No school, address, phone number, class schedule or live location in chat.

  • Stay on MyLOL

If someone pushes you onto another app immediately, that's a reason to report, not to switch.

  • No photo pressure

Requests for private photos break the rules. Report them; you're not in trouble.

  • Tell someone

If a chat leaves you scared or pressured, tell a parent or guardian as well as reporting it.

No online community can promise perfect safety, and we do not claim to. What we can do is reduce risk with real controls, act on reports, and be clear about how the community works.

Teen chat questions

Is MyLOL teen chat anonymous?
No. You chat as your profile, which is part of what keeps conversations accountable. Your real-world details stay private, but you're not a random stranger with no history.
Can adults join teen chat rooms?
No. Adult members are in a separate community and cannot access teen groups, profiles or messages.
Do I need friends before I can chat?
No. Group rooms are open to any member of the teen community, and that's usually where your first friends come from.
What happens if I report a message?
It goes to our moderation team for review. Outcomes range from removing the message to permanently removing the account.
